So while Stevie and I were working on reading this afternoon, we learned that grasshoppers have 5 eyes (hey, even *I* get to learn while homeschooling!)…I commented to him, wow…can you imagine how different we’d look if we had five eyes? He said, “Yeah, we only have two eyes…except adults have four,” looking at my glasses. Interested as to where he had heard the old “four eyes” comment, I asked innocently, “Really? Four? How do you figure that?” “Because,” he told me, pointing, ”adults have these two up front and then two more back here at the back of their head”. I couldn’t help but laugh…but didn’t have it in me to break the sacred rule of parenting and disabuse him of that notion
With Stevie and Makaio both having February birthdays, Oni sometimes feels a bit left out of the birthday celebration madness, I think. I noticed the date as being the 28th on, well, the 28th (go figure) and said to no one in particular, Hey, Oni turns 3 1/2 today! My theory about feeling left out was proved correct when Oni asked today, Hey, when do I get my half cake for turning 3 1/2!?

Yesterday was Doctor Day in our home…Stevie had his 5 yr check up, Makaio’s 2 year and (finally) Breindel’s 6 month. All three needed shots which was traumatic for everyone of course…as Stevie was receiving his check up, the doctor asked him how old he was…the conversation went something like this:
Stevie: I’m four years old, almost 5 years old though!
Dr: Really?! I just had a birthday last Thursday…do you know how old I am?
S: Noooooo.
Dr: Really old!
Mama: Stevie, who else had a birthday in our family?
S: Makaio did…he turned 2 on Friday!
Dr: Wow, so Makaio and I are only a day apart…but I have a few extra years. *smile*Â I’m 58.
S: *with awe* Wow….you’re really close to 100!
After the traumatic shots were finished, I told the crew we’d have to get some special treat for being brave…Oni, who had received no shots, wanted to know if he’d get a treat as well. I said, well, you’ll get a small treat, but the other two will be getting extra special treats because of being so brave. Oni replied, but I was really brave for all none of my shots!

Announcing the arrival of three teeth (two lower and upper right) in less than a week. My word I’m ready for Breindel to want to sleep for a change now! We went from some bulges, but not a single tooth to three erupted-through-the-gums toofers in six days.  Sheesh, busy week!

so consider that your heads-up…but it was too funny not to share!
Okay, short background giving as little info as possible (for all our sakes ;)). Daddy spends minimal time in the restroom; Mama fondly refers to the restroom as The Library. Get the picture? Okay. :) Oni favors Daddy in this aspect, while Stevie seems to lean towards my way of thinking.
So this afternoon, Stevie and I were working on school and reading about history. Specifically, family lines…father begat son, son begat grandson and so forth. So I asked Stevie who his father was…
S: Daddy
Me:Â Yes, but who’s your daddy?Â
S: Him downstairs getting ready to take a nap
Me: (laughing) But what is Daddy’s name?
S: MichaelÂ
Me: That’s right, and do you know Daddy’s daddy’s name?
S: Nope, we just say Grandpa.
Me: Well, Grandpa’s name is [Grandpa] just like Oni’s middle name. Did you know that Oni has Grandpa’s name as his middle name? You have my Daddy’s name as your middle name and Oni has Daddy’s daddy’s name as *his* middle name.
S: (Very matter-of-factly) Right, because I poop like you and Oni poops like Daddy.
Made perfect sense to him…doesn’t everyone name their child by how family members poop!?
Oh my he cracks me up with his logic sometime!!!

I will (and have!) readily admit, I’m not near as versed in scripture (lol…pun actually not intended!) as I would like to be. But while I can’t ask this on certain boards I frequent online, this is my blog and I can do as I please here! Where…and I ask this in all sincerity, no malice, or sarcasm at all!…is the biblical justification for praying for the dead?!Â

…more like Year of the Dog…as in ’sick as a’. 2008 may be the year of the rat on the Chinese calendar, but so far it’s the year of sickness for our family. If you and your family haven’t gotten sick so far this year, it’s because we’ve done it for you. DH and I counted up and we’re pretty sure that we haven’t had a single day in 2008 with everyone well. On January 2, Breindel went in for what was supposed to be his 6 month well baby checkup…I knew he had the sniffles, so I wondered if we were going to be able to get his immunizations done. I had no idea the doctor would not only NOT be doing his shots, but would be discussing hospitalization for pneumonia that he had. Thankfully, we didn’t end up in the hospital…but our little man got a hyper dose of antibiotics on the 2nd and then another hypershot of it again on the 3rd followed by 10 days of oral antibiotics and breathing treatments out the ying yang. Somewhere in the midst of that, (Sunday the 6th I think) Stevie began the first round of the stomach flu thing with his vomiting…Oni got it the next day and Breindel got it about 12 hours after that. If it wasn’t coming up one end, it was coming out the other on all three of them for almost a week.Â

Boys! I tell you, I’m glad the Lord gives us our children as babies…they start off little and give you time to try and learn this whole “parenting” thing. As I was bathing Stevie, Oni and Makaio last night (rare these days since Stevie and Oni usually take showers these days - much to Oni’s chagrin), I noticed Stevie just going to town with the toy God gave him. I shook my head and continued to wash up Makaio. As I moved on to Oni to get him cleaned up, there was Stevie…still fiddlin’ away with one hand and playing with a water squirt-toy with the other. I finally said, Stevie! What’s the fascination?! Why are you constantly playing with your penis!? He told me simply, It’s there and gives me something to do so I stay busy. *rolleyes* Good grief! ;) I suppose girls would do the same thing if God had designed things differently on our end…but my word! LOL

I don’t post for ages and now I post twice in one day! So we’ve been having issues lately with using what we call “bathroom words”. Stevie was playing in the playroom with the other kids this afternoon and decided that chanting “poo poo” to make the kids laugh was a good choice. I informed him otherwise and sent him to timeout to await discussion with Mike as to his further correction. We agreed that a mouth repeating “dirty” words over and over needed to be cleaned and that trip to the bathroom was in order. Stevie wasn’t excited about this punishment and said…”But I don’t want to wash my mouth out” to which Daddy replied, “But if your mouth is dirty, we need to get it clean again”. Stevie didn’t miss a beat and said straight-faced, “But it will clean itself automatically when I sleep”. Not only did Mike lose it, Ness, Jeremiah, and myself all were turning red from trying not to laugh…Mike finally burst out laughing. It was too funny…he still got his correction, but wow, was it funny!

but honestly, I’m so busy living life with my crew, I forget to make time to post about it! :) I’m going to try to be better in 2008 about doing so if only to document it for myself! Today’s funny - While eating breakfast, Stevie announced, “Oni, I was born WAAAAAY back in 2003, you just weren’t around back then!”
What else…Breindel is scootch-crawling around and up on his hands and knees rocking. He’s also getting more vocal and although I haven’t heard it yet, the boys are certain they’ve heard him say “mama”. If that is indeed his first word, he’ll join Makaio in being a mama-first speaker instead of the more common ‘dada’. He’s currently getting over a bout with pnuemonia which was surprising simply because we had no clue he had anything more than a common cold because he was so happy and giggly. He’s my long skinny baby…at his 6 month “well baby” visit (where he was diagnosed with pnuemonia, ironicially enough) he was 27 3/4’s inches and just 15 lbs 15 oz.Â
Gotta go, the boys are cleaning the kitchen by themselves!

November 23rd, 2007
Yes it’s been ages since I wrote anything, but we always have something going on and when I finally sit down to blog, I can’t think of anything noteworthy to write about! Today we had two though so I thought I’d see if anyone else found them as amusing as I did!
Grandma and Grandpa bought the two older boys Santa Claus shaped straw cups last year and they were put away with the Christmas decorations last year so neither boy really remembers getting them. While we don’t “do” Santa in our family, we don’t have a particular avoidance of him either. The boys both know Santa is pretend and that Jesus is the true reason we celebrate Christmas. Well, illness abounds in our family at the moment so Oni, our “popper” when it comes to getting up in the morning, slept in until nearly 8am (6:30am is when his usual internal alarm goes off) and Stevie and Makaio slept in almost as late…probably 7:40 or so - I was in and out of sleep myself so I can’t be sure of the exact time. Well, by 11:30 Makaio was already starting to fall asleep and Stevie was a whiny mess so we decided to lay everyone down for a nap…included Stevie, who gave up naps over a year ago. Well, everyone but Oni fell asleep (which didn’t surprise me given how late he woke up this mornign) so Oni came downstairs with me to help get out the Christmas decorations to bring them upstairs. When I came across the aforementioned Santa cups, I asked Oni, Hey, do you remember these? “Yeah!” he said in a voice of awe. “Who is that?” I said, pointing to the cup. “I don’t know!” he replied in the same quiet, wonder-filled voice. I laughed and asked again, Do you know who this is? He nodded and said “Noah” with a fair amount of certainty. I laughed and said, that’s a good guess buddy, but who wears a red hat like this? tapping the hat as I asked. He looked at me and said, I don’t know…Noah with a red hat on? We finally determined it was Santa, but I think I’d rather my son guess Noah than any one of a number of things of the world he could have guessed!
While decorating and moving stuff around, Stevie discovered a new puzzle that had never been done. I told him that he and Oni could put it together at the kitchen table while I moved stuff around and got ready to put things “Christmasy” up. Well, 100 pieces is still more of a “helping puzzle” for Stevie…he gets frustrated when there are much above 50 pieces for him to put together by himself. Daddy sat down to work with Oni and Stevie and as they were finishing up I heard Stevie say with surprise, “Huh, well that’s interesting! We’re almost done and there’s no one that’s five here! See the box says Ages 5 and up and there isn’t anyone who’s five here!” Daddy clued him in that he himself was just a few years past five, but its nice to think your kids think of you as young, isn’t it!?
